The San Francisco Bay Area is the largest biotechnology job market in the U.S. Join us for hands-on synthetic biology training this semester at Laney College! Start with Bio 75, our Fundamentals of Biotechnology laboratory. You will learn things like: pipetting, making buffers, genetically engineering bacteria, purifying DNA and proteins, and much more! It’s only $46 per unit!
Sign up for Bio 75 at: https://web.peralta.edu/. Biotech is an essential industry and our class will give you the hands-on skills employers are seeking right now. Entry-level pay is $19-21 per hour.

The Biomanufacturing Program provides students with the necessary training in the basic skills of biology, biomanufacturing, chemistry and math, as well as an introduction to biomanufacturing careers to enter the workforce.
There is a demand for workers with the skills gained in the Laney Biomanufacturing Program. In addition, biotech companies will frequently pay for the continuing instruction of students as they progress toward bachelor’s and graduate degrees.
With a certificate or degree in biomanufacturing from Laney College, you will have the skills to gain employment in over 240 biotech companies in the Bay Area.

Synthetic biology is fast emerging as a promising new area of exploration and study in biotechnology, with many exciting applications in areas as diverse as medicine, food science, agritech, biomanufacturing, environmental initiatives, and scientific research. This newly evolving area of biotechnology employs an engineering approach to biology in order to create and use tools that allow scientists to design and build functions in cells.
